Not less than one of the leading bands of the Finnish music scene. The unique combination of heavy metal and female singing has made this ingenious band rise like a rocket into the awareness of people around the world. The composer of the band's music, Tuomas Holopainen combines elements from movie music to the traditional metal in a way no one has ever done before. If you like good music in general you will love this album...16 tracks. Universal. 2005. Album Description
| | Best Nightwish CD out there! | |
I have been listening to Nightwish since the band formed long long time ago. They have many great albums, but this one is definitely their best CD! (Because it is an accumulation of all their best songs : ))
I would rate each song separately, but since I have a midterm tomorrow, I am going to keep this short. All the songs are great : ) Some take a while to grow on you, while others are an instantaneous hit. I would say which songs I think are the best, but that is something best discovered by oneself alone.
In summary, if you like orchestral metal/goth metal, this is the CD for you. Nightwish doesn't get better than this! I highly recommend this CD.
February 20, 2008Great lyrics! However, I don't find the "Finnish Evanescence" nearly as compelling as its Italian cousin, Lacuna Coil. Here, I can't stand the female vocalist - she sounds very opera-like. And while the band can certainly play, the score doesn't work for me, either - too many songs sound too much alike, very generic rock, and the pace is a little too fast. It's fine that Europe, especially Scandinavia, loves them so much, but it's not like XM, which gives them no airplay, is short-changing American audiophiles. Despite substantial competence, I found no keepers here.
January 7, 2008I found this band when I heard the song 'sleeping sun.' I loved the song so much, I then decided to buy the cd. Since it contained the version of the song I wanted, out of the entire cd this is the only song that is good. The rest are not the greatest. I wouldn't recommend this cd unless you are a TRUE DIEHARD fan and not someone*like me* who just came across this band by accident. Unless the other cds they have are better then this, you better save your money and just download the songs you like.
September 30, 2007 | | Truly the Best of Nightwish | |
This is a great CD for anyone wanting to experience the range of music that is classic Nightwish. Be aware that this CD does not contain any songs with the new singer, and that the lead female vocal has been replaced in the most recent CD. However, this is a wonderful starting place for anyone interested in a fun, different, and beautiful musical style.
September 11, 2007Highest Hopes: The Best of Nightwish Excellent music by Finland's symphonic metal band, Nightwish. Living in the U.S. we are not exposed to many of Europe's best artists and musicians. Don't miss this band. You will love them. Even if you are not a heavy metal fan, you will love this music, because it is symphonic metal. That means it's way more than metal guitars, drums and screaming vocals. Tarja, the female singer, is a trained opera singer. Toumas, the keyboardist, is a musical genius. Toumas writes the music. The bass guitarist, Marco, has what's called a "raucous" voice, but he is outstanding, and also helps compose some of the music. The lead guitarist, Empu is not only extremely talented, he's gorgeous! The drummer is the best I've ever heard! Check out Nightwish!! You will love them. They're touring the US in the Fall. Look for their new album in September.
