Even heroes know when to be scared and I'm no hero
Mike Shinoda takes a different route, however, and goes the hip hop way...appropriately enough. His rapping didn't ever bother me in Linkin Park, I actually thought it gave them more credibility for having a rapper instead of a singer who also raps. Knowing that going in, I was fully ready for what is offered up on his debut record with Fort Minor, The Rising Tied.
The Rising Tied is a RAP RECORD. There is no rock in this CD whatsoever. There are some insanely good beats included though, just take Where'd You Go, In Stereo (best on the CD), Red to Black, and Slip Out the Back.
Few times can you say that a rap CD gives out good messages, but Fort Minor does aplenty. Where'd You Go and Red to Black are prime examples. Where'd You Go is an intense song for anyone who's had a close family member just walk out, and Red to Black tells the story of a broken family with no punches pulled.
With this being a pure rap record it's only expected that they're will be an abundance of guests. Among the best are Holly Brook and John Legend. Surprisingly though, each guest is pretty good. After hearing The Rising Tied and then going back and listening to Linkin Park, Shinoda really is a good rapper in a way that isn't normal, he doesn't degrade, he doesn't diss, he simply tells stories. I like that.
My favorite songs are Where'd You Go, In Stereo, High Road, Red to Black, and Slip Out the Back. Pretty much, as side projects go, Fort Minor ranks pretty highly with me. Shinoda isn't doing something completely awkward for him and he sounds comfortable. Recommended. May 26, 2008
The truth in words
Mike Shinoda takes it to another level
I must point out Mike Shinoda show his true love of music by releasing Petrfied and Remember the Name as 100% Free Distribute content and he also released all the tracks to many of the songs to allow his fan to experiment with the beat and make their own and submit them
I must say their is not one song I do not like on this album and I must mention my favorite 2 songs In Stereo and one that not even on this album and was released exclusive to the fan club Tools of the Trade.
In Tools of the Trade he takes random things in his kitchen he finds at home (while drunk) and makes an incredible song thens spits some rhymes.
In the hit single Where'd You Holly Brooks Amazing voice is shared.
And In Kenji Mike shares his families stories of struggles
I encourage to buy this album and check out the many other songs mike has floating around because there are many different remixes done by mike and fans and djs and special releases and it just sad the album ends December 22, 2007

Thanks to Mike Shinoda, of linkin park fame, being the lead vocalist in Fort Minor.
But after listening to the whole album, i was certainly wrong.
This is a great album, full of new and exciting tracks...and it most certainly does not sound like another Linkin Park :) December 3, 2007
