About New Model Army - The Ghost of Cain
New Model Army's sound was further expanded with the addition of Mark Feltham's harmonica on 'Poison Street' and 'Ballad.' 'Poison Stet' was released as a 12-inch dance remix and made a dent into that market. 'Heroes,' another song about the differences between generations is the highlight of the album. EMI. 2006. | One of the Best Album's Ever |
| Wow! This is timeless! |
It's funny how nothing really changes with politics and that as Reagan and Bush Sr. were reaping havoc across the world with trading arms with Iran/Iraq and Bin Laden I was wearing out this album on the turn table with my bratty college angst going to every demonstration against government policy that I could.
Well, the album is as crisp today both politically and sonically and just goes to show that thoughtful songwriting will always be timeless to the next generation that discovers it. The 51st state song rings true with the Bush/Blair fiasco.
Thanks for releasing this on CD as my beer soaked album has long been trashed and most likely jetisoned out of my apartment window at some point in some maddened frenzy when it finally refused to play. Unfortunately, I've grown older and can't get the same effect flinging a Brittany Spears album out the window.
I have since bought a few of the bands other cd's, but none hold as dear as this one because of the timing it came out and my drunken college stupor filled with confusion, radicalsim, and flat out despise for all the politicians that rule our lives in their own best interest. So put on this album, get pissed of, and band together as human beings to peacefully change our government and all it's bad foreign policies that reak havoc on the poor of other countries. Double this up with 1988's THUNDER AND CONSOLATION and you'll never turn on a pop station again. May 18, 2004
| After 14 years, they're still the best band I've ever heard. |
All of the songs of "Ghost of Cain" pack power and punch along with both rebellious and intelligent thought behind it. As a testament to their music, I know of two metal bands that have done covers of "Hunt" and do it justice.
If I had to put New Model Army's music into a little box and label it, it'd be right there in "Songs to Start Your Own Revolution To". I've listened to NMA for 14 years now and I was lucky enough to see them in their US tour some 10 years ago. I can honestly say that they are more powerful live and in person than in any CD recording you've ever heard. In that performance in Berekeley, Ca. they played "Hunt", "51st State" and "Master Race" and drove the crowd insane.
Buy it, they're an addiction. February 1, 2003
