It goes without saying that this 1982 release on CD is long overdue!!!! The whole album is warm, funky, and solid, thanks in large part to the fantastic production talents of Kashif, along with Paul Lawrence Jones III, and Morrie Brown. But this album was part of the R&B trifecta that would help define the 80's funk genre. Kashif and his production team between 1981-1983 put down hits like "So Fine" (Howard Johnson), "I'm In Love", and "Love Come Down" (both from Evelyn Champagne King), and this sound is in full force on Howard's "Keepin' Love New" album.

Like many others have stated, "So Fine" is one of the definitive R&B jams of the 80's period, and it is a shame that some in this generation do not have a clue about this artist or the contribution of his producers; especially when you factor in some of the formulaic crap that's out there now. I worked at A&M for a while in the early 90's, and I was asking everybody on the lot who was around when this album was being produced where I could pick up a copy of this album, or if there was a way to get one out of the vault or something, and much to my amazement, they had no more access to getting this album than I did and suggested I go to a collectible record shop...which of course was a dead end as no one carried that album, and those who were fortunate enough to have the album were smart enough not to part with it.

But for those who remember this era, and appreciate what came from it, this overdue CD release will hopefully give Mr. Johnson some credit that's overdue as well. October 19, 2008

This CD was hard to find thru alternative methods and is as 'strong' as I remember it in the 80's August 28, 2008

Searching is OVER!!! Found "SO FINE" on one of those Mastercut series but I needed the ACTUAL LP on CD. Someone in marketing is learning because I see MOST of those that were not on CDs are flooding the market.

Just got two SKYY that I have been waiting for FOREVER also....SKYYPORT and SKYY.

This 1983 release was Howard Johnson's debut album and was definitely hot. "So Fine" will always be remembered by many as one of the hottest dance tracks of the early 1980s but the whole album was great from beginning to end. All eight tracks were produced by Kashif and an up-and-coming Paul Laurence. Howard Johnson would subsequently work with other producers but they could not duplicate this album's magic. I've been waiting 19 years for this album, and now it's finally available (as an import). I've a strong sentimental attachment to this album, particularly the songs "So Fine" and "Take me through the night." I wore my parent's turntable out with those two songs and would rate them FIVE STARS EACH (if I could). I'm paying import for this album, but, so be it! Three stars for the album overall!
