About Los Tarantos
NOTE: At this time, this product does not have English subtitles and the audio track is in Spanish. Product Description

I would have gotten more out this with English subtitles, but my Spanish isn't bad and there is still plenty to get. For me it was all about the dancing; oh sure, there's the family feud, and star-crossed lovers and the beat lifestyle of this subculture, but what really animates the story is the passionate and frenetic stamping and strumming that goes on. So while the story marches on to its inevitable tragic outcome, what is really interesting and essential here is the character of the people revealed in their dancing. Eso es!
June 24, 2008 | | Classic movie, but unacceptably fragmented release | |
The move "Los Tarantos" is a classic, and I was looking forward to getting a good copy on DVD. However, this particular release does not present the entire film. It is a shortened version that simply ends prematurely. If you want the full movie, order a copy from Europe (PAL format) and watch it on your computer. This fragment of the full movie is unacceptable, and I am very disappointed that Amazon distributes it.
March 15, 2008This movie is worthwhile if just for the chance to see the dancing of the glorious Carmen Amaya. However, other dancers in the film are also wonderful and magical. I saw this movie when I was 17, and never forgot it. My mother and uncle were a flamenco dance team from the 1930's to the 1950's, so this movie spoke to me in a special way. Its a version of Romeo and Juliet. It is set in Spain, probably in the early 1960's, within a community of gypsies. Its completely in Spanish with no subtitles. However, even those who do not have a working knowledge of Spanish will be able to follow the spirit of the story, and enjoy the incomparable flamenco dancing.
October 7, 2007For those who love flamenco music and dancing, this movie features Carmen Amaya, a true master. The movie is in Spanish only, though, with no subtitles option. Quality is fair, but not bad for its age.
August 12, 2007I AM A FLAMENCO LOVER, AND WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL, I SAW LOS TARANTOS AND WHEN I SAW CARMEN AMAYA, SHE STIRRED SUCH A LOVE OF FLAMENCO IN ME, AND I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A GREAT DANCER LIKE HER.
ANYBODY WHO LOVE THE DANCE WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THIS MOVIE AND ALSO THE GITANOS ADAPTAION OF ROMEO AND JULIET. MUY BEUNO.
ADDITIONALLY, THIS THE ORIGINAL GREAT FLAMENCO FLIM.
