About Paul Oakenfold - A Lively Mind
A Lively Mind, the second artist album from Paul Oakenfold—perhaps the most important figure in modern club culture—is a passionate, up-tempo, electronic adventure. Continuing a tradition of employing unique vocalists, Oakenfold enlisted actress Brittany Murphy (8 Mile, Sin City) for lead track "Faster Kill Pussycat" plus modern hip-hop great Pharrell Williams, hip-hop living legend Grandmaster Flash and others. But it is Oakenfold’s dance/crossover genius at the heart of A Lively Mind. Album Description

One of the best produced DJ artist albums I have heard. Oakenfold has made a CD that many people will like, but I think Oakenfold fans may not be expecting this. It is very much in the pop-techno category- "Faster Kill Pussycat" sung by actress Brittany Murphy comes to mind. Even still, some of the individual tracks are exceptional. "Not Over" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Ryan Tedder (now famous as the singer from One Republic song "Apologize") has an amazing voice and is on 3 of the tracks. There are a few random songs on this CD that straight-up suck though: "No compromise" and "Feed Your Mind". Overall, I love this CD.

After Bunkka, Great Wall, Tranceport etc. I figrued Oakey couldn't put a bad album together. BOY WAS I WRONG. This album contains some serious pop trash that even on repeated listenings couldn't grow on me. There was one or two decent trance songs on this album but if your looking for trance...in my opinion Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk have completely eclipsed Oakey in all respects. Its a shame cause I was a big fan back in the day.
June 19, 2008I have read some of the reviews and am sad to see so many people unhappy with Paul. This artist has taken a new step and I think it was a very upbeat tempo album.
Great effort and I loved it!

I wish i had another 8 speakers and 4 subs in my car connected to a bajillion watt amp, I have been listening to this CD all the time, although i dont like most of the tracks, but Vulnerable and Switch On are the ones that rock the most. I mean i have thumped the coil out of my subwoofers here.
This is the kind of stuff that i expect from Oakenfold. These two tracks remind me of his older soundtracks from different movies. I really like both of them, and they are great, on and off the car audio system. I have them on my ipod, my computer, my cell phone, what else.
October 18, 2007I found this Cd pretty much a "Oakenfold"style of music.Faster Kill didn't do so much for me.Now "The Way I Feel"moves me like few others can!! Fantasic music as you move through the Disc.I bought it for friends~Yeap! Itz that good, moves, danceable and sometimes heady~I don't think it is a "have to have" CD for the non Paul O fans, but his music has moved with the times~My Guess "Okenfolders" would say "money well spent"~It really isn't Hard core dance~But it well still move your soul~
