About Busted Hearts - Sin Sorrow & Salvation

No degree of separation here. Busted Hearts are the Phoenix, AZ bluegrass group fronted by Keith Jackson (who was on Fundamental in Shock Therapy) who is also in the punk band Glass Heroes. The Busted Hearts have been opening for Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys (Fundy put out a Stanley Bros record way back too).

The Busted Hearts have been together for many a year, and strive to write and play undiluted Bluegrass - a mixture of originals and forgotten favorites. A trip into the dark hills of old time music, a woven mixture of murder ballads and sorrowful mountain tunes. Having played numerous shows with Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, the Busted Hearts have firmly planted their musical roots early on. In a music genre that is quickly becoming adulterated by commercial big money music makers and companies, the boys keep a narrow path towards what made Bluegrass music the last real American music. Take some time to listen to their tunes, and remember a time of family gatherings, days around the radio, and a sullen early evening in the hills back home. Enjoy. Album Description

Bluegrass has always been outlaw music, and while some young 'uns might have the chops, the attitude to back it up isn't as prevalent as some would have us believe. The Busted Hearts definitely have the grit, you get the sense that these guys may have tipped a jug or two in their time. Not only that, but they aren't afraid to shed a tear while they're getting dirty. June 28, 2006

These guys play bluegrass without some kinda gimmicky-trying-to-be-hip crap sticking out of their pockets. This is the ROCK n ROLL of the Mountains! I love the traditional takes on the songs like "Medicine Springs" and "Wild Bill Jones", but the new songs like "Lisa's Joy" and "I Don't Mind" sound like they've been played for years. Each tune is catchy to stick in your craw all day long. The Busted Hearts play it loud, straight up, and to the hilt. I'm thinking now that punk rock got it's cues from Tennessee Bluegrass. WOW.
