Wow the world is off titlt. B/S/ rappers like 50 cent, and young jeezy who wouldn't sell a single album without catchy beats (wow some rappers you guys are, you rely on danceable/bumpable beats rather than mic skills) sell millions of albums, and legendary MC's like Method Man barely sell anything now of days. This is proof that the younger audience really doesn't understand this genre. To all the new kids into rap, that'll try to rip on me for knocking on 50 and jeezy, and rip on Meth in return, need i remind you - Method Man (aside from Bone)is the only single rapper to do tracks with both 2Pac, and B.I.G. They both wanted to do songs with him for a reason. I gaurantee they'd not only avoid doing tracks with these wack rappers now of days, I bet they're both cringing in their graves at how the genre has gotten completely exploited, and ruined. I must note, that Biggie, and Pac are not my favorite rappers, but their skilled one's that you youngsters seem to have atleast some respect for (which you should)

To this album ...
His first two are my personal favortes. Hands down. His third (as you may know) fell off quite a bit, which caused him to get his game back in motion on this one. Lyrically, Meth is alot more focused, and covers a wider range of topics than he usually does. I would never rate him as the sharpest in the Clan, but he stays true to HIS own style, and doesn't try to fit in the shoes of someone else. I love him for that.

The production is alot better than I though it'd be, with RZA hoping on a few tracks. The guest spots are gold as well.

If you're a Wu Tang, Meth, or Hip Hop and don't already own this, I suggest atleast checking it out. August 11, 2008

After his last album i thought Method Man had became another sell out commercial rapper. But i think 421 could be some of Meths best work. Hes going back to what he used to be. Is It Me and Problem start the album off on a high point. Dirty Mef is another classic joint. Say is also a really nice laid back track. But Presidential MC is without a doubt the true highlight on this album. A 2006 Wu classic. So it looks like method man is back i just hope he keeps it up on future albums because this is what we need now more then ever. May 17, 2008

I've been listening to a lot of different genres lately, this cd reminded me of how good hip hop can be when artists do it right. It's a masterpiece, you're listening for the first time, and at some point you realize every song has been solid so far, then you get to 4:20 and it gets f* ridiculous from there on. Ear candy. Most rappers sound like they're acting, meth doesn't to me. December 17, 2007

After the long wait for the dissapointiong Tical 0: The Prequel, Method Man goes back into the studio and two years later delivers his fourth album 4:21...The Day After. Unfortunately Method Man falls into the category of artists like Nas and Snoop Dogg of the fact that their debut album was so phenomonal, that the masses feel that each and every follow up is a dissapointment. Given that I was aware before I was going to hear this album, it wasn't going to be no Tical, but at the same time it doesn't meet my expectations.

Given that Method Man is one of the commercial artists in the Wu-Tang Clan, at times he doesn't deliver on the lyrical side for most of this album. "Problem" and "It's In Me" are weak on the lyrical side, although the production is excellent. What really gets me is that I know Method Man can come much harder than he does on this LP. "4:20" sounds completely uninspired, although I do like the sampling of his old voice during the hook. "Konichiwa *******" just sucks.

I won't completly write off Meth on this album. Songs he does kick a little flavor that I like. "Got To Have It" is excellent. "Say" features Lauryn Hill is tollerable. "Ya'Meen" is catchy that features Fat Joe (is it me or is Joe trying harder and harder to sound southern) and Styles. "Walk On" Meth and Redman kick verses with awesome chemestry. To me, thats by far the best track on the album. "Dirty Mef" is great and features the late ODB.

Overall 4:21...The Day After is solid but average. It still head and shoulders above his previous album, but that is not saying too much. Many listeners will like the production on this album curtrosy of RZA, Erick Sermon, Scott Scorch, and others. Some fans of the Wu will like this. I just personally don't think this album measures up to Method Man's capabilities. I recommend you give this a listen before you purchase. Peace.
