this was filmed in munich in 1992, and is a performance of that entire wonderful and amazing album...his septet is astonishingly talented, the sound quality is brilliant and i absolutely recommend this disc, which was released in 2006...enjoy December 31, 2007

rating: 5 In The Sweet Embrace of Life!
This is an amazing performance. You get over 2 hours of gorgeous arrangments, and awe inspiring improvisations. Every member of the band is swingin'. Chapters 14-20 ( "In The Sweet Embrace Of Life" ) are worth the price alone. Buy it now! October 7, 2007

rating: 5 Amazing score and performance
This disc is stunning. Musically it is a jazz masterpiece. I had my reservations on this one. After purchasing and watching, it is money well, well spent. You see each member of this 7 piece ensemble reading off charts off this incredible Marsalis score. When it comes time for the solo's, the eyes are closed the charts are gone and they play with such amazing improvisation, it is astounding.

What is a letdown though is when they pan the audience. Most of the folks in the front seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. The others in the back are the ones that hoot and holler. I guess we can figure out who are the "season ticket-holders" and who are the fans on this one. Me myself, I would give anything to breathe in this live performance. I would definitely be out of camera view, I guess.

All in all, if you want to witness a very, very tight band performing a score that really makes Marsalis stand out...Then this is definitely for y'all. This was a welcome treat to witness. The filming is well done too. They focus in on who is leading at all times. BRILLIANTLY DONE JAZZ PERFORMANCE. August 13, 2007
