there is a style of guitar playing on this cd for everyone. frampton wanders around the different styles. don't read that wrong, he doesn't wander with his playing. it is, as always, peter frampton quality god-like guitar playing.
April 10, 2008I bought this CD for my husband's birthday. He is of the "Frampton Comes Alive" generation. Though I've never been a huge fan, I found this CD quite enjoyable. It's all instrumental, but not elevator music. Peter Frampton first came to light as a very young guitar wizard, but unfortunately after a number of other very young guitar wizards (i.e., Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana) had already established themselves. I was expecting a lot of "Frampton Comes Alive" without the vocals, but this is actually a very well-thought and well-performed album. He has matured in his music, and it shows.
March 28, 2008 | | After 30 years I still love Peter Frampton!!! | |
He really is an excellent guitarist, I put him in the same league as Al DiMieola, just fabulous!
February 11, 2008This CD was a disappointment. It simply does not feel like a Frampton album. This in all probability is because of the many other collaborators on the album. Maybe it's just me, but I was hoping for a more up and rockin' album from one of the finer guitarists and musicians of my generation. Overall---I expected better.

If you look at the liner notes the intro to the credits is "Who wrote what (and who didn't)". The album is titled "Fingerprints" with a picture of a fretboard..where other guitarists have "left their mark". The album is Frampton's homage to other great guitarists, recreating their styles in his own tunes (except "Black Hole Sun"). The "who didn't" is his hint that you should identify "who didnt" write the songs...ie who they were inspired by.
If you listen to it in that spirit you will hear Dave Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Clapton acoustic, Clapton electric, Duane Allman...and others that Im not as familiar with. I wont say which songs are which...the fun is in the listening for it.
