About Akon - Konvicted

If R&B has been drifting lately, Konvicted proves Akon's ready to take the wheel: His reedy voice encapsulates Jersey, Jamaica, and continents beyond (Africa, most notably); his wait-a-beat delivery enhances his high-flying hooks; and his attitude mulches thuggery and womanizing into something worth spreading around. If that's not indication enough he's on a roll, consider the accolades Konvicted is racking up--a Grammy nod for "Smack That" (featuring Eminem), a No. 1 single with "I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg), sales in the millions. To count Akon a musical groundbreaker, though, you have to be ready to embrace a new genre that might take Brian McKnight and Usher fans a little getting used to: hardcore R&B. Both "I Wanna Love You" and "Smack That" don't shy away from raunch, and tracks like "Tired of Runnin'" and "Shake Down" bring on an MC edge that belongs more to the street than to the bedroom. Still, count on Akon to convince holdouts he's worth hearing; both his message and his manner bear the marks of the unstoppable. --Tammy La Gorce Amazon.com

I'm ashamed to write that I have converted to hip hop in my 30s.
I was made to listen to this album: and I thought it was vaguely interesting- when I took it home, I was hooked. The beat is amazing
smack that is so so good.
Shake down, rain, gangta bop all are really catchy. Akon's cool Senegalese accent is addicting. Except the 'I want to love' with its really bad lyrics, the rest of the songs can be sung/ yelled when you are on the road.
The beat is amazing:
Initially I would shake my head when a black dude would pull up next to me and blast his hip hop music at me at the traffic light; Now that I've discovered AKON and hip hop-I roll down my HONDA moon roof, and my windows and I let my stereo blast KONVICTED right back at him- the sight of a 30s asian dude, clean shaven, wearing a tie and a stethoscope stops them dead in their tracks!
Buy KONVICTED- you cant go wrong( my wife hates it, and I probably will see no "action" for some time, but feels so right to hear music so wrong.

This album is a near classic. It only missed it by a few songs. Akon has always had talent. Thats why i am so happy with this album, because his first album was terrible and i thought it served him no justice. All the song were produced terribly and the songs themselves were just garbage. But aftere hearing "I Wanna Love U" on the radio and i was instantly addicted to its sexy but ghetto feel. So when Konvicted dropped i ran and got during my lunch break and listened to it on the drive back. And i honestly liked just about every song. The only songs i really skipped over were "Never Took The Time" and "Once in A WHile". Other than those to tracks everything else was good. My favorite song is probably either "I Can't Wait" which is just a mid tempo love song with a nice vibe to it, or "Mama Africa" because this song is the perfect song for vacationing, it has a jamaican feel to it and Akon is just on point with his lyrics. But the best thing about this album is the production is so much better. Akon is definetly here to stay after this album. Because this was the album that he reached out to a more diverse crowd. Here is the best way to describe how truly good this album is, i believe that if America were to have a time capsule right now, i think that Akon's album would be an option to put in there because he is just such a loud voice and his music really moves people and there will never be another Akon. Overall the album is great but still not perfect.

I think this CD was pretty good. I bought it for my son. The language is quite graphic so if you are in the least bit squeemish over vulgarity go with the censured version. Akon's voice is in a class by itself and the music is good and the story lines to the songs are excellent. The rain is my favorite. December 14, 2007

1. Shake Down Boring, boring, boring.
2. Blown Away Stupid and childish. Take your pick.
3. Smack That This is one of the worst "R&B" pieces of talentless crap if I ever heard it!!
4. I Wanna Love You Listen-able.
5. The Rain *yawn*...
6. Never Took The Time No one cares...
7. Mama Africa Are you serious?!
8. I Can't Wait .........
9. Gangsta Bop Stupid.
10. Tired Of Runnin' Again, who cares??!
11. Once In A While ....*yawn*
12. Don't Matter This is another solid song. It could even be a gay's anthem since it repeatedly states, "Nobody wants to see us together...but it don't matter, no..."

2 good songs isn't worth a purchase in my opinion.

And what happened to all of the reviews for this CD?! There were quite a few last time I checked!

Ah well. I'll spread the news on how bad Akon and his voice sucks as often as I can.

I like rap music................old school that is. Given, I do still like NWA, Tupac.....but today all this rap is starting to sound like the whole cliche....I got this. I f**ked her......I got these rims on my car/truck. Rap use to not be like that. This album totally sucks......Akon can't sing....at all. I think along with him and R-Kelly both should be locked inside the closet together. The song that totally pisses me off the most is the last track: "Doesn't Matter". Quit your whining, dude. This sounds like rap/emo. Want some real rap? Stick with Common, Mos Def, Tupac (RIP), or Ice Cube. September 16, 2007
