We have watched this dvd several times and it just keeps getting better and better. If you are a Crowded House fan you can't ask for more, unless the concert could have gone on longer.
May 9, 2008 | | A Fitting Farewell Concert | |
I gotta tell you first that I'm a longtime fan of crowded house. I couldn't get enough of Paul Hester, Neil Finn and Nick Seymour when they first conquered the world. Yes, that they did! The brilliant songwriting of the three men, but especially Neil made this band a truly unique and special one. They conquered the international airwaves with their beautiful, deep songs. So, it was truly fitting that they would do a farewell concert after Paul Hester had decided to leave the band and hang out at home to watch his daughters grow up. Sadly, Paul left this world a few years ago when he took his own life. It is a shame we lost such an incredible talent. Still, this video is a loving tribute to an extraordinary band with that "something special". This is a great, not good, concert. We only see a touch of Paul's comedic side but it's the songs and the camera work that make this a superb concert. Shot in 1996 it is also in letterbox. Most concert videos made at that time in the states were pan and scan so kudos to Australia for giving us a remarkable concert with a concert view. Nothing is cut off from this "theatrical" concert. You get to see Neil, Nick, Paul, Mark, who would eventually become a regular member of Crowded House after Paul left, and Tim Finn, who joins for a few songs later in the concert. So, if you're new to crowded house or an old time fan this concert belongs in your collection. The band still rocks to this day but I believe the great stuff was made during the ten years of 1986 to 1996. If you want a place to start then order Farewell to the World Live on dvd and CD, their self-titled first album, Crowded House, Woodface, The Temple of Low Men, and Together Alone and you'll be completely immersed in the brilliance that is Crowded House.
March 23, 2008I had seen little bits and pieces of this DVD on various video web sites and couldn't wait to get my own copy. Being a big Crowded House/Split Enz/Finn fan, I counted down the days until it arrived.
Just as I suspected, the DVD was fantastic. The documentary seemed a bit rushed in direction, but overall the concert footage was great, sound quality was fantastic and the playlist that the band choose was perfect. Nearly everyone of my favorite Crowded House songs were captured durring the performance.
Although the band thought this was their "last" performance, we all know that recently they released a new album and tour, but for nostolgic reasons, this video holds up well and every Crowded House fan, large or small should own or at least see this DVD.
I give this DVD 5 out of 5 guitars.
February 15, 2008Great DVD. Good camera work from the live show. Excellent stage show. The bonus features on disc two very likely could have fit onto Disc One with the concert, but there's something about a multi-disc set that makes a DVD release seem like it has "value-added" properties.
Generally happy with the set list, though I wish "That's What I Call Love" was on there. I saw the band in a club in Memphis in 1986 and recorded a live concert of theirs off the radio about the same time. Both shows featured "TWICL" and they were rockin' and a real highlight.
Oh well -- at least I got to meet the band after the show and get my cassette of their first album autographed. Wonder if I still have that.
Good DVD and good value for the money.

A must own DVD for any Crowded House fans. Neil is at his best and even has brother Tim join in for a few songs. Good sound recording.
