| | The Sensitive Sound... is So Unique | |
Although this album did not contain any hits, it contains a number of gems. This album is a unique cross between easy-listening and jazz (very boring), but the vocal of Dionne Warwick, the lyrics of Hal David, and the composition of Burt Bacharach, makes this album worthwhile. Dionne's voice is in prime condition. Although she's revered as a pop or easy-listening vocalist, Dionne can virtually sing anything, and never lets go of her gospel and R&B background. Naturally, she incorporates some soul into all the songs. Standout tracks include an almost definitive version of "Unchained Melody;" "How May Days of Sadness;" "Don't Say I Didn't Tell Yo So," a unique flip and continuation of "Walk On By;" and "Forever My Love." "Unchained Melody" is one of the greatest songs ever made, and Dionne validates that sentiment. Her voice meshes well with the melody and the execution is perfection. "How Days of Sadness" is a dramtic, brill-building ballad that features a great yearning vocal. "Don't Say I Didn't Tell You So" has a silky intro and keeps the attitude of the mega-hit "Walk On By." It's sort of like a flipped version of the song keeping a laid-back bossa-nova rhythm, that is also reminiscent of the hit song to come "Message to Michael". It also contains "Forever My Love," which contains the ultimate message that anyone could relay to a lover. Overall, the album is fantastic and doesn't upset. And intresting note to add is that this album is very impressive because albums released in the 60's were not conceptual or percieved as valuable. The market's focus was singles at the time of "The Sensitive Sound of Dionne Warwick"'s release.
