Yes is one of the most innovative and successful rock bands of all time with a career that now spans five decades. In 2003 the band made their first appearance at the Montreux Festival despite having a long association with the town itself (they recorded there frequently in the seventies). It was a triumphant night and is regarded by both the band members and fans as probably the finest Yes gig ever to be filmed. It has been much in demand and is now finally cleared for release.Tracklisting:1) Siberian Khatru2) Magnification3) Don't Kill The Whale4) In The Presence Of5) We Have Heaven6) South Side Of The Sky7) And You And I8) To Be Over9) Clap10) Show Me11) Rick Wakeman Solo Medley12) Heart Of The Sunrise13) Long Distance Runaround14) The Fish15) Awaken16) I've Seen All Good People17) RoundaboutFormat: DVD AUDIO Genre: MUSIC DVD/CONCERTS UPC: 801213914197 Manufacturer No: 39141-9 Product Description
| | The is not a good performance | |
I thought this performance was lame and fell way short of my expectations. I am not a true Yes fan but I own the Fragile album and think it is very good. The lead singers voice is very week and sounds off key, the bass solo had no substance, the music has no energy, and the music seems a little slow. I am glad I test drove this album on Netflix before getting this one.
August 25, 2008 | | Over 2 hours of Yes in Concert At Montreux 2003 on Blu-Ray baby!!!
What else can I say,I love Yes and I love Blu-Ray,so this was a no brainer type of purchase for me,this Blu Ray Disc contains a complete Yes concert Live at The Montreux Jazz Festival in 2003,and the lineup(Jon Anderson,Steve Howe,Alan White,Chris Squire and Rick Wakeman)are in top from here!!! They play a lot of the classic material:And You and I,Heart of the Sunrise,Don't Kill The Whale,I've Seen All Good People,Long Distance Runaround/The Fish, and of course Roundabout, and a many more, over 2 hours baby!!! If you have a Blu Ray player and like Yes than this is a great purchase, but don't worry it's also available on standard DVD too!!! I actually got my Blu-Ray Disc brand new for less than the DVD!!! Two thumbs up!!! A+
August 11, 2008I love my 50" plasma but I love Yes more. What a thrill to see them up close in this excellent rendering of this 2003 concert. I would have prefered the editors to have remained more on one artist throughout a musical section, and I would have liked to see Squire, Wakeman and White get equal time with Anderson and Howe, but that's because each member plays such an integral part of the whole. I hope we get more Yes, Genesis, Asia, ELP, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd and other progressive rock offerings on Blu-ray soon.
June 3, 2008 | | OK Not the Best Video or Sound but....
It's great to see these guys play the old songs. I missed seeing Yes in 1977 and sure this will never replace that but it's great to see musicians of this caliber in Blu-ray. I agree with the comments on video and sound issues but this is not U23D. Given the newness of this technology in 2003 and the fact that it's a generic recording from the folks at Montreux - it's not bad.
I'm not a Yes nut - just enjoy seeing music from when I formed my music foundation (e.g. Yes, ELP, Led Zeppelin, etc). This was a great era! However, I don't live in the past - bands like Wilco, Gomez and My Morning Jacket keep the fires burning.
Buy the CD - have some fun!
June 1, 2008 | | Highly recommended despite overzealous fan segment
Of all the Yes DVDs I own I like this one best. The selection of songs is very good and the performance is very inspired sounding like the band are really playing and not just going through the motions. During "Roundabout" why is some woman on stage with Jon Anderson. It appears as though she is dancing with him just for a minute, and then Anderson pulls away from her clearly looking puzzled at her presence in the middle of a song. Highly recommended despite overzealous fan segment.
