Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat: 20th Anniversary Edition

A fabulous album

I can't believe I had never heard of this album until I just stumbled across it while browsing music online. The first time I listened to it, I was simply amazed. This is truly one of the greatest albums I own. The combination of Leonard Cohen's songwriting genius and Jennifer's rich voice make for an unforgettable album that stands up to repeated listenings. THE Leonard Cohen record to buy

I will echo what one of the other reviewers has said: sometimes you want a real singer to sing real songs. Cohen is a much better poet than we can ever hope to get in pop music, but Warnes has a real voice. Cohen is prone to sing flat at times. His voice drifts downward. Warnes has a better instrument. And even if you didn't know who Cohen or Warnes were, this is a great record anyway. May 17, 2008

If you liked the original release and you have the equipment to realise the benefit of the remastering then this is a well worth while addition to your collection.

The sound quality over the original is spectacular I could hear things that never existed in the original standard release Jennifers voice and the backing vocals present themselves as if it were a personal performance.

I would like to see the same done to the Hunter album or maybe an SACD 5.1 version of both of them, their is nothing like quality and this album has it in spades and then some. April 5, 2008

Desert Island Selection - Seven Stars

With this collection, Jennifer Warnes helped many people to discover the songwriting brillaince of Leonard Cohen. Many also realized that they had missed just how incredible of a vocalist Jennifer is. But it all starts with the songs and these are outstanding. It's kind of funny that I got to know Cohen through Joe Cocker's version of Bird on a Wire and I got to know Jennifer through her duet with Joe on Up Where We Belong. It's like there is proof of Zappa's Conceptual Continuity everywhere if we just look and listen. So sit back and listen to these songs over and over. You will find that love is the force that unites us all.

This would be one of the last albums I'd part with if forced to trim my collection - and I mostly listen to rock. Every aspect of this disc is excellent or better. I bought the vinyl when it came out over 20 years ago and endured the critics nitpicking the realities of recorded sound. What they didn't realize was that they were listening to it turned up really loud because the music is so grand it demands one to take it to the limit. Anything but the best systems will show some audible distortion if you crank it loud enough. This is a great sounding disc. February 17, 2008

I LOVE this CD!

This is the best CD I've ever purchased. No one can top Jennifer Warnes' voice and her interpretation of Leonard Cohen's music is beyond belief. I love the song Ballad of the Runaway Horse. I had never heard that song. Now I'm eager to find Leonard's rendition of it too! You can't go wrong with Jennifer Warnes. She can sing anything! February 16, 2008
