About Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band: Live In Dublin

Bruce Springsteen With The Sessions Band Live in Dublin' features 23 songs drawn from the band's performances in Dublin, Ireland at The Point on November 17, 18 and 19, 2006. Songs include fan favorites from 'The Seeger Sessions,' radical interpretations from the Springsteen songbook and rare songs appearing for the first time on any Springsteen release. The DVD captures the band during the finale of its multi-leg 2006 tour.
The Word Magazine (UK) said of a concert on this tour, "I have never, make that NEVER, seen a show better than the one mounted by Bruce Springsteen and his (Sessions) band." The Washington Post declared, "It was the best live show I've seen in at least five years. (And I've seen a few.)"

Documented with nine cameras, the concert was filmed in High Definition (HD).

If anything, this shows how much fun making music can be. What a great atmosphere. Wish I would have been there. Once more, Bruce shows not only being the greatest singer, songwriter and entertainer of the 20st century, but still having the passion and energy to take his bandmembers and audience to heights they never knew existed. As soon as I saw it at a friend's house, I knew I had to have it. Great lyrics, great melodies, great sound. Most entertaining. September 24, 2008

I saw this on PBS and it was amazing...so I ordered myself a copy of the DVD after enjoying the CD for a while. I'm not normally a fan of life recordings (even Springsteen's), but this is different. The band is having a great time, the music is amazing, sound quality is excellent. The "Sessions Band" is not the same as the E-Street Band, and though both are great, this is a unique treat. I'm a fan of folk music and classic Springsteen but it was a chore to sit through this DVD. No one can question the musical skill or energy of this performance. The engineering production was also very good.

But the performance was conceptually flawed in my opinion. Most of the folk tunes would have sounded better solo or with a minimal accompaniment. Instead we get a huge band with a huge sound that seemed out of place to me. Simple tunes can easily lose their simple charm under such conditions.

There are some Springsteen classics in the mix. I usually enjoy the retreatment he gives to his classics in a live concert but this time he missed with every single one. Given the other (high) ratings for this DVD I must put all this down to a matter of taste. July 1, 2008
