Who am I to detract from other five star reviews?I stumbled upon this album over 20 years ago on vinyl via a public library. What a hidden treasure. It must had found its audience since Warner Bros. released this on CD fairly early and kept it in print way beyond what one would have guessed. I'm not a download fan,but at least "Gate of Dreams" is still available. It's not jazz, not classical, not new age-third stream for the masses?Maybe. It's smooth without the . The strings and rhythm section dance together brilliantly. Beyond the guest stars, drummer John Guerin and percussionist Larry Bunker deserve a bow for adding the right touch to every track they are involved in. Yeah,a bit dated with Sample's electric piano and Benson ,Brecker and Sanborn doing their stuff 30 years ago,but the strings are ageless. I find this to be a great album for exercise walking with headphones and yet playing this full blast in the dark is also an emotional half hour of pure musical enjoyment.

I haven't heard this collection in approximately 36 years but there was a time when we would wind down from our evening performances by listening to this music almost, on a nightly basis.
I don't feel there is anything more powerful than a full orchestra and Claus certainly brings everything to light.
The guest spots with George Benson and Michael Brecker are particularly nice too.
It was wonderful to be able to download the whole collection for under $8 on Amazon too. I have the LP but, downloading sure simplified my enjoyment.
January 12, 2008This recording is an accessible time capsule, capturing the distinct style of 1970's jazz/pop. Parts of the album seem almost lifted from 70's film soundtracks. The title of the album is appropriate, as the recurring musical theme is very deliberate and almost dream like. Joe Sample, George Benson, Dave Sanborn and Michael Brecker all add solos for good measure. It's a very "dated" sound, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. This is more a pop album than jazz.

This beautiful gem is by a man who can bring an incredible sound to an orchestra. The reviews that rave about this album are on target. I was first introduced to this mans unique but signature arrangements on the Sinatra album "Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim" and on several of Antonio Carlos Jobim's orchestral albums. His latest work with Diana Krall on "The Look of Love" helped make that CD a worldwide best seller...... he is a master of arrangement and his work with strings is magical.
April 24, 2004This album has been a favorite of mine since I was about 10 years old. I'm pleased to see it on CD. I was intorduced to Mr. Ogerman and this album in 1977, and I've been hooked every since! I still listen to this album on a regular basis. If you're not familiar with Mr. Ogerman but consider yourself to be a true jazz lover, you have to add this to your collection. Mr. Ogerman is one of a kind...a true class act. This album is timeless.
