About Sara Bareilles - Little Voice

For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy Amazon.com

rating: 5 I love this cd!
As soon as I heard the song 'Love Song', I had to find out who sang it, & buy her cd. Sarah Bareilles is an amazing talent, & the cd is one of the best I've ever found. I love finding true 'artists' - in addition to her unique voice, she writes her own music & plays the piano. The cd is a great mix of fun songs & bluesy sad songs. My favorite is still 'Love Song', but I also love 'Fairy Tales', & honestly, I love the rest of the songs too.
I can't wait to see her as the opening act with Maroon 5 & Counting Crows in Jones Beach in July! May 6, 2008

rating: 1 She is lucky to have a hit.
Love song is stupid. It will be critiqued 5 years from now on vh-1 by mediocre comedians. It is so pathetic. May 1, 2008

rating: 3 Fails the needle..
Just gave the record a listen.. Great voice.. almost spectacular. The record itself unfortunately fails the needle test.(The needle test refers to arm on a turntable lifting and dropping the needle onto a record. The test is does every song sound original enough to be it's own piece or does it all sound the same. This is for anyone not familiar) I'd really like to hear her first self released record as well as her future efforts. Don't get me wrong - this one has a couple of decent tunes, but its not something you can just throw in and let it play. April 30, 2008

rating: 3 The music is just ....okay...Only one really good song.
The love song is great of course but her other songs were just okay. I was a little disappointed. April 29, 2008

rating: 2 Disappointed
I was disappointed in this cd. She swears more than I would like. I also didn't like that the version of bottle it up was the album version and not the acoustic/ remix version. I didn't realize there was a different version of it until I got the cd. :( April 28, 2008
