About Jagged Edge - Baby Makin' Project
Urban contemporary foursome Jagged Edge re-team with production kingpin Jermaine Dupri for 2007's BABY MAKIN' PROJECT. As the man who gave the group their start, Dupri is in a special position to help Jagged Edge put together their first release on their own label, the Def Jam-affiliated 581 Musiz Group. BABY MAKIN' PROJECT files off the hip-hop edge that dominates so much contemporary R&B in favor of old-school balladry. Inspired as much by classic Motown soul as by 1980s new jack swing, Jagged Edge offer up a genuine R&B album filled with songs tailor-made for candlelit dinners and afterwards. Album Description

| 3-1/2 stars -- Do people even realize this is their sixth album? |
Since the guys are back on So So Def for this release, some people might expect a big party goin' on, but that's not the case. In fact, there aren't any fast songs on here at all; as the album title suggests, many of the songs on here are strictly for getting in the mood. The best song in that vein would be the single "Put a Little Umph in It" with Ashanti. However, they don't always excel in that category, as evidenced by "Turn U On", which is extremely hard to follow. And the corny "Can't Get Right" made me say just that.
The album fares better when the guys DON'T talk about making love, like on "Whole Town Laughing" and possibly "Me That's Who". But there really aren't any standouts to the likes of "Promise", "Walked Outta Heaven" or "He Can't Love U", even though everyone can still sing. While far from being garbage, Baby Makin' Project is an album that only the true JE fan can appreciate; it would've been better had they followed the lead single and put a little umph in it.
