Richard Galliano: Tangaria Quartet (2007)

Richard Galliano Tangaria Quartet was recorded live during Jazz In Marciac on August 6, 2006. Marciac is a quaint, sleepy town in South-Western France that comes to life during the summer months when it hosts a massive jazz festival. The festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year, featuring artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Gilberto Gil, Joe Cocker, and Manu Dibango. Tangaria features the music of its worldrenowned members Richard Galliano, Alexis Cardenas, Philippe Aerts, and Rafaël Mejias, as well as their special guest, Hamilton de Holanda on mandolin.

Galliano describes the concert as certainly one of the most beautiful... an audience that was numerous, and alert; an incredible atmosphere in a mythical place. The Tangaria Quartet played some of Galliano s standard songs Tango Pour Claude, Laurita, Sertão, New York Tango, Fou Rire, Sanfona and Spleen while exploring a few new ones including Chat Pître and Tangaria.

The concert features Hamilton De Holanda s astonishing mandolin solo, Alexis Cardenas and Rafaël Mejias incredible duo and Galliano s improvisation alongside both of them. Music not adequately framed

sublime performance but poor video quality. As I bought a dvd I must appraise the product in its entirety and give only 3 stars. Better buy a cd or switch off the video and just listen to the music.I so, one could give the maximum rating. January 3, 2008

The master does it again

Galliano does it again. This guy only gets better with time. The accordion is subject to "full blast" action with flawless execution. This is a must have for accordion fans. October 20, 2007

Terrific Concert

I watched this DVD on a week day evening - and literally - fell out of my bed!! The first few pieces may be a bit slow and conventional, but once they hit the solos and duets, this concert takes on an entirely new dimension. Hamilton de Holanda with his mandolin is a true virtuoso. He has the music and the emotions going. His performance is breathtaking!! Galliano, Mejias, Aerts, and Cardenas give it their best... towards the end, you feel the heat, the pace, and you can only imagine how amazing the live performance must have been! Hope to see Richard and his band in the US soon!! September 11, 2007
