About Paul Oakenfold - Greatest Hits & Remixes

Paul Oakenfold’s influences on dance and electronic music span two decades and this collection showcases these bringing together Oakenfold’s greatest hit productions and remixes for the first time, on one album. Oakenfold is widely credited as one of the originals responsible for importing the Balearic sound from Ibiza to the UK in the late 80’s leading to the global explosion of Acid House, Rave culture and dance & electronic music. Take a look at the Klaxons recent cover of Grace’s Not Over Yet to see how much Oakenfold’s’s influences still filter through to current music culture. The tracks on this album reflect all of the above including Oakenfold’s’s legendary remixes of stadium rockers U2 and Madonna, the rave / baggy scene remix of the Shamen and Happy Mondays production, the hip hop to trip hop vibes in Massive Attack, Arrested Development and Snoop retouches through to the 90’s club classic of Underworld, PPK, Planet Perfecto, Grace and Olive. I am surprised how he ever agreed to this 'greatest hits', as it goes against the very logic and definition of a rightful DJ and his mixes. Its just a silly pop trash collection that could have been compiled by anyone and made into a sales gimmick.
I was very disappointed by this, i know its humanly impossible even for him to top his days of 'tranceport' and GU, but this is pathetic....., signs of choke n'fold are showing.

Only recommended for those music ignorant who just want to 'paahty and dance' ... oakie fans, don't even come by on this one. June 19, 2008

The days of Oakenfold being an early pioneer of trance and progression are over. As silly as it may be for us "trance heads", Oakenfold has made the switch into more mainstream music and mixes. The only thing that remains true are those distant memories of the club scene, where his mixes energized the crowd until the early hours of the morning. Thanks Paul! April 3, 2008

If you are even remotely into Paul Okenfold, you must own this. I can't think of one song that I skip over. A great gift for like minded friends. March 10, 2008

I am an Oakenfold fan and like the spins that he has put on several WELL KNOWN songs. That is where the beauty of this CD is at. Most songs you will actually RECOGNIZE and how he puts his spin on the original version of the song is notable. I felt the originals were better in some cases but I found it to be a great CD to listen to.

I've purchased tons of techno, trance, chill, etc. CDs over the years and this one ranks up there. If you want something that mainstream/ Top 40 listeners would relate to than this is a winner. February 11, 2008
