"Rockstar" is Nickelback's (allegedly) ironic song about the rock star lifestyle. "Everybody wants to be a rock star" they sing annoyingly together. They sing about parties at the Playboy mansion,Playboy bunnies who "blow my money",drug dealers on speed dial&having room for a baseball game on a private plane. It's supposedly mocking celebrities' lavish lifestyles, and it makes fun of rock singers who write only what's written for them, caring more about the money than the music. How fitting.

Canada's Nickelback (a reason to secure our northern borders) have been sell-outs from the beginning. Have they ever been original? Are they anything BUT corporate rock? They've had tons of topselling singles, but have they really cared about the music? So,pointing out musicians who sell out is like the pot calling the kettle black. "Rockstar" is funny the first time around, but like any Nickelback song it gets boring with each playing. "Rockstar" is bad enough to drive one to Yanni or Sting. Sting can be as sanctimonious as Chad Koreger... thankfully,he's handsome and he can sing. January 20, 2008

rating: 3 QuoteOverly serious band finally has some fun.Quote
Chad Kroeger and Nickelback practically invented the genre of 'emo-metal' with their oh so serious songs. Listening to a Nickelback song is almost enough to make you want to seek out therapy afterwards.

Finally, however, they managed to break free of their overly serious demeanor with the hilarious ditty, "Rockstar". In the lyrics, lead singer Kroeger creates a veritable what's what of the perks of being a rockstar ('everbody's got a drug dealer on a speed dial', 'all those Playboy Bunnies with the bleach blonde hair'). This song is why anyone wants to be a rockstar and benefits of it are quite amusing.

This departure of their previous tone is entertaining but, alas, is short-lived. Their next single reverts to form with the very serious, socially conscious "If Everyone Cared". Well, at least for a brief period, we had some fun. January 1, 2008
