About Godsmack - Good Times, Bad Times ...Ten Years of Godsmack

Godsmack was founded in February '95, when lead vocalist Sully Erna decided to step out from behind the drum kit to front the band with bassist Robbie Merrill, guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Tommy Stewart (drummer Shannon Larkin joined in June 2002, replacing Tommy Stewart). These Boston-based rockers have sold well over 8 million records on their first four albums. Godsmack has more top ten Active Rock Radio singles than ANY other group history. They have charted an amazing total of 13 hits with five #1's including "Speak," their hit from Godsmack IV and "Awake," "Straight Out of Line" as well as the twice-Grammy-nominated "I Stand Alone" (from the Scorpion King soundtrack). Awake's "Vampires" earned Godsmack their fourth Grammy nomination for "Best Rock Instrumental Performance" in 2002. "Good Times, Bad Times: 10 Years of Godsmack" INCLUDES A 75 MINUTE DVD OF ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE FILMED AT THE HARD ROCK HOTEL IN LAS VEGAS, and Features the previously unreleased version of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times". I remember seeing these guys live when I was going to school in Providence RI '96-'97ish, at a bar!!!! I'm glad to see they are still having fun, thats whats important. They ROCKED then and they still ROCK today. I buy their CDs to help their career in hopes to hear a new CD. I think I've only heard 2 or 3 songs that they have ever put out that I didn't care for. These guys say a lot for my generation. I know a few enlisted people in the Navy and when "Awake" was picked for the Navy TV ads thats all you heard around the Navy base. Anytime I do karaoke they are the 1st band I look for in the song list, "VooDoo" is my fav to sing... "And I don't remember why I came..." ;-) March 2, 2008

So, first off, this band annoyed me from day one. They aped Alice In Chains in every way possible, right down to their name and their logo. I saw them in concert a few years back, and they were even worse. I've never seen a frontman spend so much time slinging dumb rock-talk cliches at a crowd in my life! they were on stage for forty five minutes and I think they played five songs. the rest was yack yack yack.

Now, for the most part, I've ignored Godsmack because, like Linkin Park and all the other Big Radio Rock these days, all their songs sound the same.

Well, a buddy of mine who actually likes these guys told me they had a new song that's totally different from anything else they've done. Turns out it's this Led Zep cover they did... and named their "best of" after it.

Can these guys think of nothing for themselves???

Down with Godsmack! February 27, 2008
