About Our Love to Admire-Tour Edition

Our Love To Admire is at once unmistakably Interpol and undeniably new. The witty and perverse "No I In Threesome" is an upbeat ode to shaking up a staid relationship propelled by Carlos D's peerless bass melody while the tenderly observant "Pace Is the Trick" proves that the band are still the masters of the dramatic – check the painful pause right before the sinfully satisfying return of Sam's thundering drums and Daniel's ringing lead guitar. The band's impressively seductive evolution is obvious all over the record, but never more so than on tracks like "Mammoth," "Who Do You Think" and on the album's lyrical centerpiece, the ghostly "Rest My Chemistry." While Daniel is understandably proud of the song he cautions against reading too much autobiography into its lyrics. "We always leave the interpretation to the listener," he says. "I mean, you shouldn't watch a movie for the first time listening to the director's commentary!"

Our Love to Admire closes with "The Lighthouse," a funereal dirge that is among the most unexpected and memorable songs ever recorded by the band. Almost entirely percussion-free, the song is constructed around Daniel's mournful guitar and Paul's sparten lyrics. Not only is it one of their finest moments to date, it provides the album's most goose-bump inducing moment, the very same reflex shivers that make Interpol live shows such an exhilarating experience. As the very last song the band recorded for the album it was, they say, the hardest to play. The hypnotic guitar part was played on a 50-year-old guitar that had toxins on the strings, providing Daniel with a blistering and painful sensation in his fingers. The band weren't even sure the track would make it out of the studio, but once they heard Paul's remarkable vocals they were floored. The song – and the album – doesn’t so much end as it bleeds to a close with a long, echoey coda filled with feedback and strin! gs. A fittingly dramatic end to a stunning and emotional journey. Interpol is back, every bit as good as before but charged with a new spirit, a new direction, a new label and, most of all, a new confidence.

Special Package Edition includes:

A bound, CD-sized hard covered book with 24-page booklet. CD in back and poster.

Absolutely awesome song! Just love Interpol! Comes in a nice black book-like cover with one pocket for the CD and another pocket which holds a wall poster just like the picture of this special deluxe package CD. Hope to get an audio or video album by them. Highly recommend this album! January 18, 2008

Excellent album. Excellent buy. The first review says it all. If you love Interpol and you can, you should BUY this version. The bonus CD with live shows is great.

Still waiting for a DVD with a full live show. But this is a "must have" for all FANS of this amazing band.

Interpol released its eagerly anticipated third album (and major label debut) "Our Love to Admire" (11 songs, 47 min.) in the summer of 2007, and has been touring pretty much non-stop since the release. "Our Love to Admire" is ageing quite nicely, and I have kept it in my CD carousel pretty much since it came out. Our Love to Admire falls somewhere in between the darker mood of Turn on the Bright Lights" and the lighter, catchier tone of Antics, and for me the more ambitious tracks such as opener Pioneer to the Falls, Mammoth, All Fired Up (even with that riff straight from Radiohead's I Might Be Wrong), and best of all, Rest My Chemistry, truly the stand-out track on here. The 2 singles The Heinrich Manoever and No I In Threesome are nice enough. There are nevertheless a couple of tracks that don't seem to go anywhere, and falter.

The bonus CD (6 tracks, 32 min.) brings us the first official live tracks from Interpol, recorded at the London Astoria in October, 2007. There are 4 tracks from the new album, namely Pioneer to the Falls, The Heinrich Manoever, Mammoth, and Rest My Chemistry, and 2 tracks from TOTBL, namely Obstacle 1, and Stella Was a Diver ans She Was Always Down. The band sounds very tight, and this is an excellent excerpt of that London Astoria show. One only wishes that there was more of it on here. The bonus materials are rounded out with the videos for the first 2 singles (Heinrich Manoever, and No I In Threesome).

In all, this deluxe version of Our Love to Admire is a very nice combo, and highly recommended. I saw Interpol here in Cincinnati 4 months ago on the Our Love to Admire tour, and that was simply an excellent show, and the live recordings found on this deluxe version only confirm the stellar reputation of Interpol. Having been a fan of Interpol since 2002 this album is a major departure aesthetically speaking from their first two.

Most people will either love this or hate this. I loved it on first listen and still love it after consecutive plays. Everything about it is sonically gorgeous. From the sweeping "Pioneer To The Falls" to the bittersweetness of "The Lighthouse", the album is epic.

It may not be a huge step away from their sound but then this is only the 3rd album. Give them time because the potential is there. They've showed us that with this one.
