One interesting note is that Allan Jones had a brief appearance in this film in an opera production segment. He sang a Puccini aria from Tosca which Nelson Eddy had removed before the premiere because he feared Allan Jones would be a rival. This turned out to be the case. Nelson and John Boles were both vying for the part of Gaylord Ravenal in the 1936 version of Show Boat, but the role went to Allan Jones. He not only had a better voice then either of the other two but also could act circles around them. Unfortunately Allan's movie career never really revealed his true potential. In the Marx Brother's film "A Night At The Opera", he sings in several opera segments that show what a really fine voice he actually had.
My hope is that MGM will issue all of the Jeanette MacDonald operettas in a boxed collection.
