"Never Be Anyone Else But You" has Ricky singing to celebrate the joys of finding his one true love; Ricky sings this with passion, heart and soul. "Never Be Anyone Else But You" makes a strong beginning for this album. "Poor Little Fool" is one of Rick's greatest hits ever; he sings and plays the guitar flawlessly and this makes me slightly jealous of his extraordinary talents! Rick sings this well and the backup chorus sounds very solid, too. "Lonesome Town" is a ballad about a place where the lonely hearts live; Rick never misses a note on this tender song about the pain when love doesn't work out the way people hoped it would
"Hello Mary Lou (Goodbye Heart)" is, of course, one of Rick's best known hits ever; and he bats this one straight out of the ballpark! Ricky sings this beyond perfection with great sensitivity; and the upbeat melody gets a lot of strength from some mighty fine guitar playing. "I Wanna Be Loved" gets a fine treatment from Rick who sings this very well; he handles the tempo and key changes effortlessly and this very early soft rock and roll tune sounds very good as Rick sings it.
"Unchained Melody" also gets a fine treatment that is changed just enough so that Rick can put his own stamp on this classic pop song; he sounds so good on this number. I really like "Unchained Melody." Listen also for "Teenage Idol;" this country flavored early rock ballad stuns me with its beauty and I can't ever get enough of Rick singing this number.
"It's All In The Game" also gets a change or two so that Rick can put his own stamp on it to make this his own; I love the slightly slower tempo and the backup chorus works well, too. "True Love Ways" sounds like a more recent recording; Rick performs this with sensitivity and I like that very much. The album ends very nicely with Rick performing "That's All." "That's All" again sounds fresh and new when Rick sings it; and the musical arrangement lacks nothing--it's all THAT good.
Obviously, Rick Nelson fans will want this for their collections. I highly recommend this fine album for people who enjoy classic pop vocals and even the oldies.
Thank you, Rick! Great job--we will never forget you!
