| | MIA Lyte as a rock,but it is good | |
MC Lyte was that chick that was cutting it up and dropping much flow and Swag on tracks back in the day. the songs are cool, but it was her flow and the way she took over that made you feel where Lyte was coming from. Lyte could battle and hold her on and not miss a beat. a few other tracks I would have liked to have seen, but this good especially if you are just now getting into MC Lyte.
July 24, 2008Nice to finally have a compilation of hits from the greatest female rapper EVER! Beware it is explicit.
January 11, 2007this is the real deal - old skool beats... mixed with real hip-hop flava. MC Lyte at her best. Best female rapper ever IMO. Brings back memories. top lyricist. 5/5
January 9, 2007I'm definitely a money saver, but this is one of the few times that I didn't want to buy something used to save money. I wanted her to get whatever royalty amount she'd get for this album because she deserves it. I love this woman's style. When women of today are more concerned with jewelry, booty-tight jeans, and bragging on promiscuity, women rappers of the 80s/90s had much more class. MC Lyte was something else though. She had class, but she also had an edge. Even better, she had VARIETY. She talked about everything from a boyfriend with a crack addiction, being partial to roughnecks, being in love, females testing her out, partying, and anything relevant. She didn't settle on a formula. She was herself and I respect that about her. She is hands-down THE BEST FEMALE LYRICIST ever. I have debated so many people about this because people tend to forget the pioneers, but if I'm around, they get a really loooooong reminder. On top of that, she's still keeping her craft up to par.
Her a capella rhyme "Wonder Years" on MySpace is so raw. I blasted it for months and just checked out the video today after reading her blog. It's very seldom that I can find an artist to blast in my stereo and respect at the same time. I'm usually indifferent about the artist, but Lyte brings so much of her personality into the music (at least what I believe is her personality). But going back to the album, although "Stop, Look, Listen" takes me back in the days of daycamp when I performed this in a dance contest, no song gets me more hype than "Cha Cha Cha." That song is what I play when I'm getting ready to work out. The song isn't even that fast, but it gets me so hype to the point where I WANT to work out. "Rock the Party" is a really cool cut. I like "Poor Georgie"s message, especially since I'm not really the type to walk around saying "I love you" to people so it makes me remember to do it anyway. Pretty much everything on here is something I've played in heavy rotation back in the day and would now. Keep it up, Lyte!
P.S. That time you made Tigger blush about the "refined ruffneck" on Rap City was pure entertainment.
November 2, 2006She was the 1st female to put the fear of God. I could've sworn a man wrote her lyrics. "Lyte as a Rock"? my goodness no woman has ever clinched the game like she did. NO ONE male/female in the game dissed her. You couldn't, your career would've ended the moment you take your 1st breathe. Paper thin? after listening to that, sooperman luver need to get vest out the dry cleaner to step to this. Lot of memories, ie doorknockers, and that blonde puff hair style. Salute to lyte!
