About Rambo - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Composer Brian Tyler (Aliens Vs. Predator - Requiem, War) is known for creating compelling music for action films. For Rambo the music is no less intense, but there is also a powerful emotional resonance that reflects director Sylvester Stallone's vision of a world torn apart by war, and the lone warrior who knows what he must do about it... I am a big fan of the writer/composer of STAR WARS/Jurasic Park's/ect...
Mr. John Williams. But Mr. Tyler and his ability to transcend RAMBO'S character thru music and his use of EASTERN Tibetian/Thai music helps the film and RAMBO'S character end a long standing struggle he has thru the first three and then the last RAMBO with his conscience and his view of the world. A very peaceful and powerful soundtrack. One of RAMBO's... (Stallone's) best pieces of the 4. Soundtrack does this movie JUSTICE and just listening to it GREAT and PEACEFUL. September 11, 2008

This is probably the best of the four soundtracks developed for the Rambo story. Each track clearly takes you that particular part of the movie, allowing the listener to visualize the story line. Clearly, Sylvester Stallone knew what he wanted as one of the soundtrack producers, especially in the mixing of past Rambo themes into a contemporary environment, culminating in the final track achieving Rambo's "full circle" of returning home. My only critqic is the tracks are not in the order as played in the movie, but this is only a minor comment. August 12, 2008

I know I've said it before but I still cannot believe that Brian Tyler, a composer who first came to my attention with the wonderful Bubba Ho-Tep (Signature Edition) score, could so quickly turn into a hack churning out 'noise' scores for trash movies such as The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift [Original Motion Picture Score] and the inarticulate, bombastic sounds of Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. What a disappointment this obviously talented man has turned out to be. Or was the music of Bubba Ho-Tep (Signature Edition) merely a fluke?

Living up to Jerry Goldsmith is no easy task even for a vetran, so it puzzles me why Tyler should receive that honor above everyone else. Think of how good the score to Rambo would have been if Chris Young, James Horner or Alan Silvestri had been hired. I'm afraid to say that, as it is, the only good parts of this CD are moments when Tyler more or less directly cut and pastes portions of Goldsmith's work from First Blood: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1982 Film). What little melodic input Tyler uses from his own imagination is sadly generic and forgettable. Also, while he's strengthening his own sub-par music with Goldsmith's why did he choose to leave out the absolutely brilliant main theme from Rambo: First Blood Part II - Original Film Soundtrack, New Expanded Edition? I can just imagine that theme being used to great effect in the finale when Rambo seizes control of that massive gun and lays waste to the bad guys.

Each of the score CDs from the first three movies have signature sounds and themes in pretty much every single track. Unfortunately, aside from the occasional cue containing the wonderful Rambo theme, this CD is mainly filled with more of the tiresome action 'noise' that is so commonplace in film-scoring these days. There's hardly anything memorable about the new material on this CD and I recommend it only to Goldsmith or Rambo fans. June 29, 2008

Ok, I am a really devoted Brian Tyler fan. I absolutely adore his music. It is just so freaking fast and intense and loud, I could eat it for dinner!

So when I heard that Brian Tyler was composing the music for a Rambo film, my heart went racing and I simply couldn't wait to get my ears on it! Now that I've listened to it, I have some mixed feelings.

One, it is somewhat repetitive, but not too much. It is also one of Tyler's more, shall I say, furious film scores. It is really intense, but it hasn't given me a headache so far.

Well, let me put it this way. It isn't Brian Tyler's best, but it definately isn't his worst either. If you already have the music to War, The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, Darkness Falls, Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem, and Timeline, then pick this one up next. If you don't have those, then this one will have to wait. June 15, 2008
