About New Found Glory - Hits

WELCOME TO THE STORY SO FAR. Since 1997, New Found Glory has delivered brilliant punk power pop. Angst fueled by jangly guitars. And they delivered on the only way a self-respecting punk band would: on singles and EPs. NFG's first-ever greatest hits collection, chronicling the band's best-loved singles, album cuts and a couple of rare gems, "Constant Static" (previously available as a Japanese album bonus cut) and "Situations" (not commercially available, only streamed on Warped Tour website for a one-month period). Album Description

Okay, I'm a little older...I was introduced to NFG by my teenage daughter five years ago and really only knew some of their biggest hits like Dressed to Kill and My Friends Over You. But I loved those so decided to get this great hits collection when it came out. I am glad I did. I like every song on it, which is extremely unusual for me. Let's hope that NFG keeps putting out more great music! June 28, 2008

Simply put most are familiar with New Found Glory. Their style energetic hardcore influenced pop-punk is insanely addicting and has won them fans the world over during the last 10 years. Fitting that after that period of time and over the course of 5 records, they would be putting out a greatest hits comp.

Well I'm not much of a fan of greatest hits records because usually they are just comps put out by a label that feature an artist's big singles, but this one does the band pretty good justice. There's no songs off "Nothing Gold Can Stay" (likely because Geffen doesn't own the rights to the disc), but all 4 of their other releases are fairly well represented. It just happens to be that some of NFG's best songs happen to be their big singles. NOT ALL THEIR BEST SONG, but indeed some of them like "Hit or Miss" and "My Friends Over You." If you don't own any previous New Found Glory albums (highly unlikely if you're reading this), I suppose this is a suitable place to start. The two unreleased tracks, "Situations" and "Constant Static" are also pretty good songs. Unfortunately they don't warrant buying the cd (iTunes anyone?)

So basically I just said what the downside of the disc is. Besides the fact that every greatest hits cd never has all the band's best songs (and a GH record never will), this one doesn't really offer the hardcore much of a reason to purchase it. Two unreleased songs? Yea they're good, but shelling out $10-12 for this when you can buy them individually online? Seems pretty dumb if you ask me. More or less, this is only special to anyone who doesn't own any New Found Glory cds, and just wants something with most of their recognizable songs.

Overall not a bad compilation, but not at all essential. I give it 3.5 Stars because the song selection is pretty good, but there's no real reason to buy it. Recommended for starters, older listeners just check out the bonus tracks online. Have fun. May 1, 2008

NFG has truly developed through the years and never disappoints as long as you just accept the music for how it is. Don't expect anything. They're unlike anything you've heard before. April 20, 2008

rating: 4 QuoteGood Compilation, But Some Great Tunes MissingQuote
As far as compilation albums go, they are pretty much a crapshoot these days, for the simple fact that if a person has all their favorite band's best tunes on a mp3 player or an iPod, why purchase a Greatest Hits album? Well, actually, there is a bonus track added, and the disc is in chronological order, making it a great introduction to the band. This album reminds us of how great this band can be when it is on its game, and before softening out in recent years, NFG played pop-punk anthems with the best of them, revitalizing and bolstering the genre. While it is apparent that they draw influences from many other bands, they have managed to sound somewhat unique. Their ability to change the pace from slow to frenetic in the middle of a song is one of their trademarks, and although they have yet to release that one defining masterpiece, they remain one of the standard-bearers of the sensible, melodic pop-punk genre. These guys have been at it for over a decade (it doesn't seem possible!) with a solid sound and a sense of humor about themselves (just look at some of the songs they've covered over the years and you'll know what I mean). This collection includes a couple of items that, up till now, haven't been widely available. I hope these guys are around for a long time to come...all the best and more. Thanks guys! March 18, 2008
