Nena - 99 Luftballons

Gabriela "Nena" Kerner's American debut combines tracks from her first two European releases, including everyone's favorite antinuclear dance-pop single in both English and German. Likable as "99 Red Balloons" and "99 Luftballons" were, their international success was not to be repeated, even though tracks like "Kino" and "Just a Dream" have a similar just-this-side-of-kitsch appeal. "Leuchtturm" and "Uner Kannt Durch's Marchenland" are also strong, but the clumsy "Let Me Be Your Pirate" makes you wish Nena had stuck to her native tongue. Classic 1980's Euro-pop

Nena has enjoyed a long and productive career. The title track from this song became a worldwide sensation.

The music is not complicated musically and is very synthesizer-centric. For the most part it's feel-good music with an occasional piece of socio-political commentary.

track one

Track one [99 red balloons] was redone and it's an awful redo..the first time i heard it I thought I got a bad disc...it's almost like it skips in teh middle and some mix genious added a 'slow motion effect' to the guitars in the middle of the track and a bunch of crap right after Nena finishes her solo at the beginning...don't buy it..the german version of the song is good but damn..they ruined the English one. Nina is ageless!

I think this is a wonderful cd for young and old to enjoy. It's great to dance to or just to relax to! It's a cd I can listen to with my teenage daughter and she loves it too! March 10, 2006

99 luftballons rox my sox! 99 red balloons just can't compare, altho it is good too! the rest of the songs are pretty good, altho that one about the pirate sux. w/e. u should buy this cd just so u can hear the original version of 99 luftballons! ok, well, i'd luuuuuuuuv to stay and chat sum more, but unfortunately I can't. sry! Review of 99 Luftballons

Great CD for fans of Nena. Has both the English and German versions of 99 Luftballons. The rest of the album contains some songs in English and some songs in German as well.
Amazon.com had the album and got it to me in a very reasonable period of time. Other music outlets (stores, online, etc.) didn't carry the album. August 13, 2005
