When shakesphere couldnt find a name for his play he just named it AS U LIKE IT not to be outdone NKOTB has called their song CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT thats what i initially thought when i bought this album I think this is their best album ever October 8, 2005

 A Fall From Perfection
1988 was a monumental year in music for two reasons.. "Hangin'," and "Tough." Ok, I think everyone can agree that "Hangin' Tough" was pretty much the best album ever made. Look, not even Wayne Newton could touch the lyrical mastery that was the title track. That was the all important jab that set up the right cross that was their follow-up, "New Kids On the Block." "Didn't I (Blow your Mind)" you ask? Yes you did you NK, yes you did. Bing, knock out punch right? Not quite, we need album number three, the left hook lights out call mammy and tell Tiny Tim I won't be comin' home for Christmas. That was supposed to be "Step by Step." But they missed with the left hook and ended up hitting themselves in the crotch, and the referee took away a point for a low blow, even though it was a low blow on themselves.

Let's set the scene. I'm driving from some hot chick's house after knockin' boots for the better part of 3 hours to "Hangin' Tough" on repeat. I put this baby in with sheer confidence that it'll follow in the line of perfection the New Kids have been walking. Let's just say 30 seconds into the first track I tried to set my cd player on fire with the cigarette lighter but ended up shorting out the volume knob so it went right up to full volume instead. I immediately pulled my 1984 Toyota Tercel Wagon with cow print seat covers to the median of I-40 and ripped out my speakers with a screwdriver, cut the leads and chewed through the rubber surrounds. Since I had a pimp ass system in it, with 2 bumpin' 15's in that back that made my liscence plate rattle like a 6 foot bumble bee on crack, I took out my claw hammer that I keep handy in the passenger seat in case someone wants to talk smack (there's always haters jealous of my ride), and destroyed the speakers and the box from the pure hatred and frantic loathing that this album inspired. I mean, the melody was the worst thing I've heard this side of shrill whistles and that sound that trains make when they try to stop really fast.

Lyrically, just how could you go from the platinum lyrics such as:
"Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Listen up everybody if you wanna take a chance.
(rap:) just get on the floor and do the new kids' dance."

To this freakin' filth:
"Hey girl can't you see
I've got to have you all just for me
And girl yes it's true
No one else will ever do"

Wow, what a contrast, nuff said. I'm embarassed I ever owned that album. But I'm still cooler than you.

 Re-visiting my youth
I played this CD the other day and was amazed that after all these years, it still appealed to me. Wow! In their heyday the boys were magic and this album shows why. September 24, 2005

 New Kids or NKOTB?
I remember I was in the 4th grade when the New Kids hit it big with their first album. All my friends had it and new all the words to songs like "Popcicle" and "Didn't I Blow Your Mind". I caught on to the New Kids buzz and like the rest I had the big buttons, all the tapes, even the matching sheets & comforter set for my bed. I even went to see them at Clemson during their Step by Step tour. I love Joey. He was and still is my favorite New Kid.
The only thing that turned me off to New Kids was when they became NKOTB and tried to do rap music. They were clearly bad at it. And they were clearly trying to be something they weren't which went against everything they stood for from the begining. September 22, 2005
