About In Flames - A Sense of Purpose

In September 2007 In Flames entered IF STUDIOS, in Gothenburg, Sweden, to record their new album. "A Sense Of Purpose" was recorded and produced by the band together with Daniel Bergstrand (vocals) and Roberto Laghi (Bass, guitar & drums) and mixed by Toby Wright in LA (Metallica, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, Motley Crue etc) and mastered by Stephen Marcussen at Marcussen mastering studios in LA. With this new album there is no doubt that IN FLAMES will take a step up the ladder towards becoming one of the biggest metal bands of all times. Album Description

I made the mistake of purchasing this album after reading one small review in a magazine that stated how great this album was. In Flames are probably in my top 5 all time favorite bands and I just didn't think they could make a terrible album. I love The Jester Race all the way through Soundtrack and didn't get turned off by their newer sound like most of their old school fans have. I admittadly never listened to Come Clarity at all but heard this album was most similar to the new album.

First listen through the CD and couldn't believe what I was hearing. This CD is no better than any nu-metal b.s. thats been pumped out over the last decade. The unique In Flames style is almost completly gone and replaced with a boring, repititive sound. Vocally, Anders has become pretty much entirely emo and the lyrics aare unimaginative and forgetable. I don't know how you could go from the creative song-writing that was the old In Flames to this generic, radio friendly garbage and be satisfied with your work.

I'm very disappointed. Only newer In Flames fans and nu-metal/hard rock fans will appreciate this album and I will never listen to it again. In Flames as a band will remain in my music rotation for a long time to come, but this is one album that will just sit in the corner and collect dust. July 21, 2008

I was looking for a really great metal album, and wanted something much harder than what I usually listened to. I love bands like Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, Lacuna Coil, Chevelle. However I have developed a taste for the much harder thrashier sound. I wanted something with the sensibility of a Tool or Metallica but a bit more angry and emotional. I found out about In Flames from a few forums and they seemed to be just what I was looking for.

This is a GREAT album. If you like good quality really hard metal, but aren't interested in something very very black, I think you would like In Flames. The melodic hard sound is just that perfect mix of shredding with a tempo. Some of the riffs are quite intricate and the quick solos top notch and at times even pretty.

I can't give this album a five rating, just because I have a hard time with the vocal quality. After a while the incessant cookie monster vocals are a bit tiresome. I think the growling is really good and certainly contrasts well with some of the more melodic riffs. (together they make and very interesting sweet and dark quality) However, I would have to reserve the five star for that mythical metal band that can do it all thrash, growl, amazing guitar and still have the ability to actually sing.

This is In Flames ninth release and is a bit more melodic than death metal sounding albums unlike their previous releases. Of course, they still are a death metal band, but singer Anders Friden slightly changes his vocal styles. He doesn't growl as much with his singing as with previous albums. The second song and in my opinion best track is "A Sense of Purpose", which Friden snarling out lyrics many can relate to.

The band over the years have maintained a great reputation for being a great death metal band. This album has Friden displaying a more diverse style of vocals that's more inviting to fans. Songs like "Sleepless Again" and "Alias" have scorching guitar rhythms and unforgettable hooks. The whole album is crafted with the perfect agro (you know, meaning aggressive) music that captures any metal music fan. May 24, 2008

Okay, here we go, new in flames, they return after "come clarity" storming in the metal world with there latest effort, A Sense of purpose, okay let me start off here,

All you guys who say " its not as good as ohhh say clayman, reroute to remain, or soundtrack to your escape" there's never gonna be another one of those again, and even though they are all amazing, you cant just copy the same old style and manipulate , especially For In flames, who has sooo many albums out there

Anyhow moving on, the albums is well made in my opinion,

Of Course the opening song the mirrors truth, quite literally is just all around amazing. it will melt ears. others like alias, disconnected, sleepless again, I'm the highway and delights and anger are incredible, of course i think they went for a very diverse range on this album, all the songs have a different feel to them for the most part,

Overall i say In Flames deserves an applaud for an album ive listened to over and over again, and one of the best efforts ive heard in quite some time May 10, 2008
