About Alice Cooper - Pretties for You
Reissue of the 1969 album Pretties for You which was the first album by Alice Cooper. At this time, the name Alice Cooper referred to the band as well as its lead singer. The music has a psychedelic flavor to it. The group had yet to develop the more concise hard rock sound that they would become known for. The song "Reflected", Alice Cooper's first single, was later rewritten as "Elected" (which featured on their 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies). Album Description

| Pretties For You |
Only the 1960's could have produced something this over the top. Think early Pink Floyd with a shot of The Stooges and just a dash of the first Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention album, Freak Out! and you have the original Alice Cooper groups Pretties For You.
While not a bad album by any shot it doesn't hold up as well as many of the bands other albums. Of Course Killer,Love It to Death, and even the second album Easy Action are better. But Pretties For You is better than almost everything solo Alice Cooper ever released after 1980, with a few exceptions.
Buxton and Bruce play the hell out of their Gibson's here and while it isn't the most concise playing ever it gets the job done. Alice sings in his REAL voice here which is nice. What is really cool about the album is that it feels more like a progressive rock record rather than a hard rock album, with odd time signatures and on the dime changes it is really different than the rest of their material.
When you listen to Pretties For You it is really easy to understand why Frank Zappa would sign the original group to his Bizarre/Straight record label. Nice debut for a band that had nothing on paper. October 27, 2008

If you are new to Alice, I'de Suggest "Welcome To My Nightmare", "School's Out" and his three latest albums are great. October 5, 2008
