But, thanks to 7ts records, it has! And what a good job they've made of it too. As far as early Donny albums go, it's no break from the formula, but something about it's mixture of covers, tunes written by his brothers and more uptempo material makes it special. Who can't love the likes of 'Life Is Just What You Make It', 'Sunshine Rose' and 'The Other Side Of Me'? Who can't be charmed by it's 2 UK #1 singles 'Young Love' and 'The Twelfth Of Never' and fab Osmonds penned tracks like 'Do You Want Me', 'It Takes A Lot Of Love' and 'Tears On My Pillow'? Donny's voice here, starting to 'break', is superb and the whole package is truly delightful and for me, this album is the absolute highlight of 7ts Osmonds release campaign.
I was quite smitten with 'A Time For Us' back in the day, too. 'When I Fall In Love' was the only UK single released, peaking at #4, but there surely could've been others like the beautiful, dramatic title track and 'Guess Who'. Today, I feel the album hasn't aged as well as 'Alone Together'. This material sounds like it should have been selected for someone much older than Donny's 16 years. That said, it's still pretty darn good and it is wonderful to hear it sounding so pristine on CD at last. Always loved the sleeve, too!
Summing up, if you were around at the time and a fan of Donny's, you won't need me to tell you to snap this (and the others) up sharpish. The thing with CDs like this is that they can be deleted quite quickly which would be terrible for people who haven't got them. As I've said before, buy with confidence and visit your childhood/teen years once more! July 7, 2008
