That album sucked! I was a huge fan back then but was so totally embarrassed for him when I listened to it for the first and last time. Oh
god it was bad! I was mad that I had spent money on it. However, looks like
perhaps I could sale it now for a profit to some dumb chump. I love e-bay! :) November 13, 2008

DISCO TRAIN is not a bad album at all!! I prefer it to any of the early squeeling he did on the first two albums. Never gonna let you go, C'Mon Marianne, Old man auctioneer, Disco train, I can't put my finger on it & I follow the music are all songs that I really like. It was a time for upbeat disco music and a change was needed. All of the puppy love sound-a-likes from the 50s were getting stale by 1976.
DONNY was the first album I ever owned. I still prefer the same songs I did back then. I have a dream, Where did all the good times go, I'm dyin' and If someone ever breaks your heart. It's a variety of styles on this album that make it different. There's a little bit country, pop, and soul on this one. Although it was the first album of Donny's to contain no top 40 hits in the U.S., it's just as good as A TIME FOR US and better than his first two albums.
Overall this album is definitely worth the price and I wouldn't pass it by if you're an Osmond fan. July 5, 2008

'Donny', released at the end of 1974, was the least successful of his LPs so far. Even in the UK where the Osmonds had 'hit' later the album's only single, the rather spiffing 'Where Did All The Good Times Go', managed to reach #18. That's not to say the album is bad or stale, it's not. Following on the theme of 'Alone Together', 'A Time For Us' and 'Portrait Of Donny', it's a selection of covers mixed with songs penned by his brothers. Well, I say 'songs', there's actually only one Osmonds written tune here and that's the excellent 'I'm Dyin' which Donny himself had a hand in writing. It's probably the standout track here, though I'm very partial to Donny's US hit 'I Have A Dream' and his upbeat take on 'Mona Lisa'. Also, his version of 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' is adorable and 'If Someone Ever Breaks Your Heart' is lovely too. It also has to be said that Donny's voice is at it's best here. Gone are the squeaky tones of his first couple of albums.

'Disco Train', released in the summer of '76, perhaps wasn't his finest moment! Donny himself has criticised some of the tracks and the sleeve artwork. I was 13 when it came out and remember eagerly awaiting a disco album from Donny thinking it would put him back at the top of the charts. It didn't work out that way, of course. I have to admit I found the album disappointing and lacking in memorable songs. The lead single 'C'mon Marianne' was excellent and I liked 'Old Man Auctioneer' and 'I Can't Put My Finger On It' but the rest I struggled with.

32 years later, I found it quite charming. Yes, some of the songs are questionable and it it quite over-produced forcing Donny's voice into a higher realm that doesn't always suit him, but it is well worth a listen. Both albums sound great and like the rest of the releases, the CD is a lovely picture disc.

So, well worth your money then. I hope Donny has listened to this CD and sees his 'Disco Train' a little more favourably! July 1, 2008
