About Plies - Definition of Real

Success hasn t changed Plies; it has just made him more real.
After selling over a half million copies of his 2007 debut album,
THE REAL TESTAMENT, the rapper hailing from the streets of
Fort Myers, Florida returns with the release of his sophomore set,
DEFINITION OF REAL. I feel like what I try to stand for in this game
and what I reflect and represent is the extinct individuality in terms
of being real, explains Plies. It was only right for me to embody my
sophomore album with the whole definition of what I like to call real.
It s a term that I looked up and I dissected and I feel like it fits me as
a person; better than any term I ever ran across.
Led by a pair of powerful singles, Plies has created an unstoppable
movement with Bust It Baby, Part 1 and Bust It Baby, Part 2.
The two-part ode to the women who have supported the rapper s career
goes beyond mere radio records. Instead, Plies has an unprecedented
marketing campaign that is sure to keep him at the forefront of hip-hop.
The first installment of the series is a southern-cooked dedication to
the rapper s faithful female fan base, while the second part is a largerthan-
life tribute featuring production from JR Rotem and an infectious
hook by R&B superstar Ne-Yo. If 2007 s Shawty was a pop-hit with a
ghetto twist, then Bust It Baby, Part 2 is that to the tenth power.
Still, don t expect too many features on the album, as Plies pledges to give
his fans exactly what they pay for. There ain t no other rappers on my album,
that s important for me. I don t believe in having seven or eight features on
an album - to me that s a compilation album. So, much like Plies debut
album, DEFINITION OF REAL only boasts R&B features. I think I m alright
when it comes to talking about certain issues, so I don t really need the
support of n****s to help me fulfill that vision.
I never try to be defined by how many records I sell. I think it s more
important for my mark to be made on what I stand for, says Plies. Product Description

Like the title says, Plies IS the kind of rapper that you need to listen to awhile in order to "Understand" his music.

A 4/5, and just a couple tracks just plain SUCK. His other album was better. September 21, 2008

rating: 5 QuoteYou Aint A Hater? Can't Tell...Quote
It really is sickening nowadays. People reviewing albums that haven't listened to it or purchased an album in who knows when have the audacity to talk down. It's crazy. And they call themselves hip hop fans? When did it become cool to be a hater? In the words of the great Andre 3000 "YOU AINT A HATER CAN'T TELL, EITHER WISH ME WELL GO TO HELL OR GO TO YALE"

It's disgusting and it's obvious. If you don't like this type of rap then why oh why are you checking for and reviewing these type of albums? It makes no sense at all. It's not genuine dislike, it's hating all the way. On to the review.

As seen from previous reviews, Plies is a polarizing figure. Much the same way Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Souljah Boy, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Kanye West and 50 Cent as well as others are. All very popular and not very popular at the same time. If you want to hear some battle raps over horrible beats then obviously this is not where you want to look. If you want to hear some honest rap, here it is.

Definition of Real has a fair amount of posturing going on but nothing out of the ordinary as far as rap albums go. It's not overboard. But he also comes with real moments of sincerity.

"I know dat feeling when it feel like nobody care
When you goin thru yo problems seem like nobody there
I started to question myself if God really care
Sometime i cut off all da lights in da room and stare
Wonder if he brought me this far to drop me off here
I know it seem sometimes like life aint fair
They say da only thing you count on in dis world is prayer
I prayed so much i thought dat God couldnt hear
Cuz i done been thru so much bullish dis past year
Its hard to find [people] now dats sincere
Da streets make it so hard for you to think clear"

These are the lyrics of a horrible rapper? This is the worst you've ever heard?

"I don't know if 25 years worth 2 years of ballin
That's a big pill to take and I aint trynna swallow it
[mess] round and get jammed and all this [stuff] falling
Take the streets from a [man] then a [man] starving
Tried to let it go but the money kept calling "

"Make you question if the love was real or was it fake
Out of sight out of mind I guess it's true what they say
When you was here them ones was main [people] in yo face
You aint gotta deal wit them [lame guys] you in a better place
I almost cried when I seen yo son the other day
You couldn't deny that one boy look like you all the way"

These are Plies quotes by the way. He has his songs for the streets too like I'm Da Man, Watch Dis, Thug Section, Who Hotter Than Me as well as songs for the ladies like #1 Fan, the singles Excuse My Hands and Bust It Baby Pt. 2, and Feel Like. Plies also steps up to the plate with songs with real content like Somebody Loves You, Die Together, Worth Going Fed For, 1 Day, and Rich Folk.

That's not to say that there aren't any mindless songs like (S. Bag is pretty terrible and so is Dat B.). and Ol Lady & Bushes are average tracks. But the good far and away outweeighs the bad. Definition of Real is a lot better than his debut album The Real Testament and that's a good sign. I recommend this album for real fans of hip hop and if you think I have no idea what I'm talking about check my resume of over 500 reviews and then think again. Thanks for the time.
