About Little Brother - And Justus for All

The Hall of Justus Music Group is proud to present Phonte and Big Pooh's return as Little Brother with the official release of ...And Justus for All. The North Carolina duo and founding members of The Justus League have made a major impact on Hip Hop by successfully combining the classic 90s feel of such groups as A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul with production and subject matter that remains current with the times. Little Brother made their first appearance in 2001 with the release of the single "Speed" which addressed the trials and tribulations of becoming a recording artist and maintaining a 9 to 5. They were introduced to the world in 2003 via their cult classic album "The Listening" which landed them on a national tour with Hieroglyphics. A deal with Atlantic Records ensued which was followed by their sophomore album the Minstrel Show. Phonte and Big Pooh continue in 2008 where Getback left off in 2007. ...And Justus for All features guest appearances from rap legends Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Skillz and Cormega while giving shine to Rap's up-and-comers Rhymefest (Mark Ronson) and Oh No (Stones Throw), as well as shedding light on there Hall of Justus crew rhymers. With fourteen tracks guaranteed not to disappoint, ...And Justus for All gives fans what they want: fresh lyrics, relevant content, strong production, and a roster of supporting rappers guaranteed to satisfy even the most fickle. Be on the look out for big things to come out of these Halls in 2008 and make sure you go out and cop ...And Justus for All. Product Description

I had great hopes for this album when I bought it, especially with all the guest appearances being artists that I actually like to hear regularly. But this definatley disapoints. LB just didnt bring the heat this time around. But what bothers me isnt the fact that I didnt like it all that much, its that half the damn CD isnt what was listed.

On the track listing above, the first half of the trakcs are as they are on the CD, but the second half are all different. I was especially looking for Grown Man on this album, but when I got it, no such luck for me. In fact, there are no real big names to speak of whatsoever on this album in terms of guest spots. So if anyone out there has an answer to my dilema, please let me know, because the tracks that Amazon noted are the ones I looked forward to hearing the most, and what I got was crap.

Anyway, the album isnt really all that great to me. Having boosted my expectations from Mistral Show and Get Back, I was really expecting something great here but no such luck. Their mixtape No Justus No Peace was much better then this was, easily. There was nothing special about the production, and the lyrics, while still good, just weren't as hot as they were their last few projects. There are a few good songs on here, but this CD definitely wont be getting heavy rotation in my CD player. Whats worse is that I payed 10 bucks for it. But whatever, I'll get past it, and hope that LB will do better the next time they drop.

....And Justus For All gets a 2.5 from me. October 29, 2008

Whats really weird is that I actually like this album/mixtape better than their last album. This offering reminded me of why I fell in love with Little Brother's music in the first place. The beats are crisp as ever, and the lyrics of these 2 rappers gets tighter and tighter. Phonte & Rapper Pooh are the only lyricists I've heard on the same track with Little Wayne, that made Lil Wayne sound em.....LITTLE (no disrespect intended). From start to finish one of those albums I listen to that helps revive my faith in hip hop. They'll always get my $13.99. They have quickly become one of those groups that I automatically support. This disk is great. But it seems more like a collection of songs that were excluded from their previous releases. This is definitely a must have for any LB fan. However, this can't compare to "The Listening" or the latest effort "GetBack". Still worth picking up though. August 6, 2008

I've been a fan of Little Brother since the song Yo-Yo and unlike the garbage that is The Carter 3 this is real hip hop at it's finest. Even without the production of 9th Wonder, Big Pooh and Phonte display a lyrical hunger that harkens back to Brand Nubian and A Tribe Called Quest. All in all a fine CD that can take the place of The Carter 3 in my CD player any day. June 11, 2008
