About The Cure - Freakshow (Mix 13)
Why the 13th of each month? The forthcoming album is The Cure's thirteenth studio album... A lucky number indeed! Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure line-up comprises longtime members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.
The Cure first formed in southern England in 1976 as Easy Cure. In 1978 the 'Easy' was dropped, and The Cure was signed to the Fiction label. In May 1979 their debut album Three Imaginary Boys was released to great acclaim. Other landmark Cure albums include Pornography (1982), The Head on the Door (1985), Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996), the Grammy-nominated Bloodflowers (2000) and their last full length release, the self-titled set The Cure (2004). 2006 saw the Suretone/Geffen release of Festival 2005, an award winning 5.1 DVD featuring 30 songs, shot by fans, band members and professionals during the summer of 2005's European festival run. | oh well |
Not crazy about the new singles, I don't hate them, just don't like them very much. I know everyone has different taste, but for me, if this is any indication of what the album will have, I'm not looking foward to it. August 6, 2008
| finally back to KMKMKM! finally! |
this is finally getting back to songs from KMKMKM (kiss me x3 for the non-hardcore fans). This is a dance/rock song that at first seems to be a little weird but after a couple of listens u realize the glory of the song. The lyrics are a bit strange but tell of an off-beat story of a girl (surprise right? lol)
All Kinds OF Stuff-
this is my fav of all the b-sides and really wish this would have made the album. i think this song has a rocking groove that jumps off the disc like few songs do. The wah-wah pedal is a little over used here but it really has been apart of Porl's style for years now so who are we to complain? The lyrics are intriging and make you think a little which is actually sometimes a good thing.
Verdict-
Buy it,listen to it, love it, cherish it! This song is not going to get the airplay on the radio like Only One and Perfect Boy (aug 13th) will but it reminds me of Hot Hot Hot or Why Cant I be you?. if u are a fan of KMKMKM then u will love this song. July 27, 2008
| "I can't believe it..." |
The b-side "All Kinds of Stuff" is really cool too. Hard one to pin down but kind of a "Never Enough" type tune. The music and beat are quite similar to "A Japanese Dream" as well, which used to be a difficult song to find before the MP3 age. July 21, 2008
| Nice Freakshow |
I must be dreaming
She turns
The lights up
Says she is leaving
This is a freakshow
And I am beaten
She spins
The world round
I have to stop"

NICE!! From a long time Cure fan: I'M happy with Freakshow. It isn't epic, but epic for The Cure is so much higher than most other bands. If this was a single from a random band, I would have given it an easy 5. I could have used two b-sides, but still, Freakshow is nice, light, quirky, and very very charming pop. The B-side, "All kinds of Stuff" is a more classic The Cure noise pop with roots from Disintegration (best album ever). July 15, 2008
