Simply, A New Collection For Celine

It has been 20 years, since Celine Dion broke out as a International singing sensation. Nevertheless, she still has shown a lot of strength and soul on just about anything she could really sing. But, when it unfortunately comes down to it, there hasn't really been a greatest hits record that has been definitive to appeal to die hard fans, and anyone who hasn't yet heard any of her classics throughout the 90's and beyond. While her last greatest hits record, 1999's All The Way: A Decade Of Song, hasn't delivered well with all of her classics, it still sold surprisingly well. Now to celebrate her 20th Anniversary, a new chance for Celine to shine brilliantly has come, but does this deliver, or suffer greatly.

The 2008 My Love: Essential Collection, is a single disc reflection of Celine Dion's big songs from the 90's and the 2000 era that show just how dominant her voice really remains. The collection includes a lot of her biggest hits, but sadly just like before overlooks a lot of greatest moments. Nevertheless, there are a lot of her great songs here including her standards Because You Loved Me, her Titanic smash My Heart Will Go On, The Power Of Love, and That's The Way It Is. The collection does bring in a few of her later songs as well including the soulful A New Day Has Come, and Where Does My Heart Beat Now? which was sadly overlooked from All The Way: A Decade Of Song, and her new song, My Love, which brings in Celine's signature style as a elequent vocalist. But, the collection does overlook, a lot of her biggest songs from her era, especially from her duets with the legendary Barbara Streisand on Tell Him and When I Fall In Love with Clive Griffin from the Tom Hanks classic Sleepless In Seattle, and her pop standards like Love Can Move Mountains and Misled.

All in all, while the single disc My Love: Essential Collection doesn't really seem to click for die hard Celine Dion fans (they can definitely be much more satisfied with the double album, extended version,) it does hold up nicely well, as a simple re-introduction to her beautiful melodic voice, to a whole new generation of fans that seem to be more interested in wannabe divas like Britney Spears and Beyonce'. I still love listening to Celine's voice, and this collection shows well, but I was hoping more from the single disc edition.
